Delta 2019: It’s not politically feasible for an Urhobo to win governorship election -Dr. Omene

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Delta State, Dr. Wilson Omene has said that it’s not politically feasible for an Urhobo to win the 2019 governorship election on the platform of the APC.

From left, Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr. Wilson Omene and Mr Godwin Anaughe chatting, during a private visit of Prof. Utomi to Omene’s home in Mossogar.

Omene, a former Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, stated this at his home in Mossogar when Prof. Pat Utomi paid him a visit, adding that the Urhobo nation should forget the idea of having an Urhobo governorship candidate in the APC.

According to him, the only way to dethrone the Ibori political dynasty that has held Delta bound since 1999; is to fill a credible and sellable Delta North candidate on the platform of APC, to complete the 8 years of the Delta North for equity and justices.

In his word: “We should forget the issue of having Urhobo governorship candidate in APC, for one single reason. No sane Delta North person will vote their tenure out, by voting for Urhobo person in 2019.

“So, it’s is not politically feasible for an Urhobo to win 2019 governorship election on the platform of the APC.

“Therefore, to sack Ibori political dynasty which Dr Ifeanyi Okowa represent; we must support the likes of Prof. Pat Utomi to rescue Delta from 18years of poor leadership that lacks vision and capacity to lead.”

Speaking in the same vein, Chief Hope Abijor, a chieftain of APC in Delta state during a visit to his place by Prof. Utomi, at Oghara, said that Ethiope West and the Urhobo nation is ready to support a credible Delta North candidate to take over from Governor Okowa.

Chief Abijor who described Okowa as an “Ika governor” said that with the coming out of Prof. Pat Utomi into the race to redeem Delta State, adding that God has answered their prayers, even as he urged Utomi to be steadfast as they are solidly behind him.

Prof. Utomi at the two visits called on the party leaders and members to embrace peace, stressing that the dream of APC taking over the reins of power come 2019 can only be achieved if the party is united.

According to him, “If we work together, build together, stay together, we can build a stronger party that can chase PDP out of Delta state, because if we fail to do the needful now to rescue Delta from these crops of bad leaders, our children will mock us when we are gone,” he added.

He noted that Delta state is blessed with great minds and intellectuals, yet it’s saddled with inept leaders who have nothing new to offer, stressing that “it’s time Deltans come out, and take back our state; if we must witness development.”
