How plot by Amori, PDP to stop Omo-Agege’s swearing-in failed ****As Court refuses to grant Amori’s restraining order

Fact are begging to emerge on how the plot by Chief Ighoyota Amori and the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State failed to arm-twist the Senate leadership to delay the swearing in of Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege, as the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District.

It would be recalled that on December 19^th, 2015, the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin following a suit No. CA/B/EPT/337/2015, in a unanimous judgment sacked Chief Ighoyota Amori of the PDP from the Senate, and ordered that Obaisi (Barr) Ovie Omo-Agege of the Labour Party (LP), who won the Delta Central Senatorial Election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), be sown-in immediately.

The panel of judges that decided the case granted all reliefs sought by Omo-Agege and LP (the Appellants); voided the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Amori and in its stead, ordered INEC to issue Omo-Agege with a fresh Certificate of Return as the Senator-elect for Delta Central.

Though INEC complied by given a fresh Certificate of Return to Omo-Agege as the Senator- elect for Delta Central, the leadership of the Senate delayed implementing the judgment of the court, a situation that generated so much tension within and beyond Delta Central Senatorial District.

However, our investigations have shown that the delay in swearing-in Omo-Agege may not be unconnected to the deal struck between some political interests in the senate with the Ibori political dynasty in Delta State, to support their 2019 aspiration.

Our source who is a close associate to Chief Amori, told our correspondent in confidence that the Ibori’s political family in Delta state as represented by the state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, Sen. James Manager and Chief Amori had assured their anchor-man who is a principal officer in the Senate that they will deliver Delta State to him in event that he is running for the presidency in 2019.

The source added that the deal was allegedly sealed during the lavished thanksgiving of Chief Amori, where members of the PDP leadership in the Senate were all in attendance.

Our source added that when the court of Appeal in Benin sacked Chief Amori from the Senate, Amori allegedly went to UK to meet with Ibori to appeal to his friends in the senate to delay the swearing-in while he (Amori) procure court order to frustrate the implementation of the court of Appeal Judgment.

The source stated further that part of the plans is to shop for any High Court judge who is willing to take what is on the table to grant a feverous court order restraining the Senate from swearing in Omo-Agege as ordered by the Court of Appeal.

Leading credence to this development, pockets of Amori supporters in Delta central took to the social media, particularly facebook, boasting that though Omo-Agege have been given the Certificate of Return, he would not be sown-in as they (PDP) control what goes on, in the Senate.

Our source added that all efforts for Chief Amori to get the restraining order failed to yield any positive result, as most of the judges allegedly approached backed off, citing the recent warning by the Chief Justice of the Federation on judges to shun all forms of corruption as well as cease granting frivolous injunctions.
