Benue State Security Council Issues Two-Week Ultimatum to Herders on Open Grazing

The Benue State Security Council has issued a two-week ultimatum to herders operating in the state to comply with the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law.

The Council has also called on the herders to immediately leave the state and return to their original location.

The decision was reached at the end of a State Security Council Meeting held at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Tuesday.

The Council has constituted a seven-member committee to enforce the ultimatum, which began on Wednesday.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, briefed the press after the meeting and urged the people of the state to remain calm and security conscious as the state government is making efforts to secure the lives and property of the people.

The Council also tasked security agencies, traditional rulers, and the general public to report any person in the habit of collaborating and inviting armed herders into the state for prosecution.

The state government is also addressing the hardship and looming food insecurity across the nation.

The Benue State Security Council is taking decisive action to enforce the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Law, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
