Your government is an embarrassment, Delta State APC chides Okowa

…Urges him to apologize to Deltans for his failures

By Ovasa Ogaga,

Delta State chapters of All Progressives Congress APC) have chided Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led Delta State Government over the apology it tendered to the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu over the embarrassment he suffered at the hands of Issele-Uku youths in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, over the deplorable state of the Issele-Uku NYSC Orientation Camp road over the weekend.

Recall that there was a viral video of some youths blocking the convoy of the lawmaker over the poor state of the road, which sparks several reactions on social media prompting the State Commissioner for Works(Urban and Highways), Mr Noel Omodon tendered an apology on behalf of the State Government to the Federal lawmaker during a media chat with journalists in his office at Asaba.

The State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ebata Onojeghuo Esq, in a statement today in Asaba, described the action of the Delta State Government as an embarrassment to the people of Delta State.

The statement by APC described the apology tendered to Hon. Ndudi Elumelu as the height of insensitivity of the Okowa administration to the plight of Deltans over the harrowing experience associated with bad roads in the State.

The statement read; “it is indeed shameful and wicked for the Delta State government to tender an apology to an individual who was prevented by the people of Issele-Uku over the lamentable condition of the road in their community, instead of the indigenes of the community who daily suffered the consequences of the deplorable road. The Okowa administration had no intention of fixing that road, as with other bad roads in the State, if not for the video of the Issele-Uku youths protesting the bad roads that went viral. Instead of apologizing for their failure and wickedness, they are now apologizing to Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, who incidentally the member representing the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and has the responsibility of drawing government attention to the bad state of the road”.

“Delta State have some of the worst roads in the Niger Delta region, if not in the country. This is inspite of the billions of naira that come to the State monthly. Within the last six months, the State has received close to 200 billion as the 30% derivation from the Federal Government with nothing to show for it.

“Infact, in Delta State, bad roads are competing with each for space. Governor Okowa who once called himself the ‘Road Master’ is now the ‘Loan Master’ due to his proclivity for borrowing billions daily. As of today, the State is indebted to over 300 billion with plans to borrow more with nothing to show for it”, the statement added.

The All Progressives Congress went on to castigate the State government for failing the people of the State saying that the Dr Ifeanyi Okowa administration should as a matter of moral responsibility tender an unreserved apology to the people of Delta State for its disastrous failures and attendant infrastructural decay that has left the State in the back woods of underdevelopment.
