ZOSA “94 urges Delta State students, youths to abstain from substance, drug abuse

The President of Ziks Grammar School Old Student Association (ZOSA), set 1994, Mr Jerry Enajite Ikanone has called on Delta State students and youths to abstain from substance and drug abuse, adding that drug abuse has become a big menace in the society today.

Mr Ikanone stated this on Wednesday during a drug and substance abuse awareness campaign organised at school premises, Ziks Grammar School in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, with a lecture titled “Substance or Drug Abuse”.

“We understand the negative effect of the use and intake of drugs on the society that’s why as an association we decided to bring in a resource person who can enlighten them on drug abuse. And I advise them to stay away from drugs because there are a lot of consequences attached to it” he said.

Dr Eugene Uniamikogbo from the Delta State University Teaching Hospital Ogahra, who lectured the students on substance or drug abuse noted that teachers and parents have a lot of roles to play in the life of the youths when it comes to taking drugs, adding that drug abuse can make people go insane and lead to depression.

Speaking on the effect of drug abuse, Dr Eugene also noted that the major reason why many youths are into drugs is because of peer pressure, “if you are caught with drugs you will be jailed. It has a negative effect on our society, it affects children, youths and adults. It has no respect for anybody. If you abuse drugs, the drugs will abuse you,” he added.

The Principal of Ziks Grammar school, Mrs Anthonia Overah while appreciating the 1994 ZOSA noted that the whole ZOSA have been very encouraging.

“I thank the whole ZOSA for all they have been doing, they are all encouraging. I want to appreciate ZOSA 1994 for this lecture and this is very timely. I want the students to listen and desist from taking drugs and focus on their education. I want them to continue in their good work” she added.
