Three men, Ezekiel Aaron, Haruna Barau and Rabiu Nasir, on Tuesday, appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with stealing goods worth N980,000.

Aaron, 28, Barau, 30; and Nasir, 28, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with some others still at large on May 5 at Lagos Street, off Ahmadu Bello Way Kaduna.

Leo said that the defendants broke into the shops of Mr Shuaibu Ahmed and Mrs Sarah David and carted away their goods.

He said that the items stolen included: gas cylinders, electric cookers, two LG television sets, wrappers and veils.

“The security guard who saw them in the act, quickly alerted the police who stormed the scene.

“The defendants were arrested, while some others escaped with the goods,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Emmauel ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

He adjourned the case until June 16 for mention.
