A philanthropist and Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Development, Prince Sony Jifas Ogbon has donated learning and teaching materials to primary schools in Ughelli South local government area of the State.

Prince Sony Ogbon while flagging off the presentation of the materials to the primary schools’ pupils across the local government area said the donation was part of his plan to contribute to society and encouraged the children towards education.

He further noted during the presentation that took place at the Ogoni primary school, that the gesture was his ardent desire to support parents with educational materials in order to promote academic excellence and also encouraged the teachers to be committed and dedicated to teaching the children.

Addressing staff and pupils of Ogoni primary school, Prince Ogbon said, “I am aware of the difficulty and challenges some parents passed through in providing learning materials to their wards especially now that the country economy is not stable.

“I always feel bad whenever I thought of it because this has deprived so many children of continuing their academic pursuit and in my little way I decided to support and encouraged the children because they are the foundation of any great nation and as well encouraged the teachers who are collaborators”.

Speaking further, he advised the pupils to take their study seriously just as he charged them to make judicious use of the books and other learning materials given to them.

He observed that learning materials were some of the obstacles and problems hindering children educational pursuit, adding that, “by the grace of God, you have gotten them and you must ensure to maintain everything that is giving to you”.

He, therefore, admonished teachers over their roles in building a stronger nation by giving quality education to pupils in primary schools.

He maintained that Primary education was not only the foundation for human capital development but also that of national progress, assuring of his continuous efforts in complementing the effort of Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa with a view to achieving the common vision of qualitative and functional primary education.

While commending the state’s government efforts towards primary education, Prince Ogbon, appealed to old students’ Associations of Primary Schools, social groups, humanitarian clubs and organisations to contribute towards the development of primary schools in order to improve their academic activities.
