Group vows to work against any lawmaker who fails to speak against Urhobo marginalization come 2023

Campaign for The Economic Survival of Urhobo Nation (CATESUN) has charged lawmakers representing Urhobo Nation at the National and State Assemblies to speak against the continuous marginalization of the Urhobo people by the Federal Government and International Oil Companies operating in Urhoboland.

 

CATESUN threatened that any lawmaker representing the Urhobo nation who fails to defend his constituents as expected would be voted out by the Urhobo people come 2023.

 

CATESUN in a communique signed by Olorogun Ese Kakor, National President after its meeting held at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, decried the nonchalant attitude of the lawmakers towards the plight of the Urhobo people.

 

They noted in the statement that none of the lawmakers of Urhobo extraction has deem it fit to speak against the marginalization of the Urhobo people in the ongoing process of ceding of the 57 Oil Marginal Fields, the moribund DSC and the massive sack of Urhobo people from NNPC and its subsidiaries.

 

“The continuous killings of Urhobo people by Fulani herdsmen and their paymasters, piping of gas to northern States and the Niger Republic from Urhobo Land while we are left in the dark with no contract, employment or even consulted.

“The contentious issue at DESOPADEC where only oil was used as a measurement of production quota which is against Urhobo nation’s interest as the highest gas producer in Africa.

 

“None of the Urhobo lawmakers at the National and State Assemblies has deemed it fit to speak against all these injustices being meted on the Urhobo people by the Federal and state governments.

 

“The days of condoling indolence are gone, we are ready to fight against the return of any lawmaker who fails to speak against these and more injustices enumerated above.

 

“We claimed to be the fifth largest tribe in Nigeria, yet we have no state to call our own, no representative at the NDDC, even in DESOPADEC we were shortchanged of the chairmanship position which ought to be Urhobo turn in the state, yet no lawmaker deems it fit to speak against these unfair and inequitable actions”, it added.

 

While urging the lawmakers of Urhobo extraction at the National and State Assemblies to wake up from their slumber and stand for the Urhobo people through positive bills and motions that would change the ugly narrative, the group vowed to stage a massive protest against them if the situation remains the same. “For a stitch in time saves nine.”
