Delta Poly Recruitment Crisis: Authority debunks report; says school is calm

The authority of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, has debunked media report of imminent crisis in school following an alleged interference by the Chairman of the Governing Council in the recruitment of the Polytechnic Librarian.   

 

The school management in a statement signed by its Public Relation Officer, Mr. Billy Onotue, said that there is no iota truth in the media report that there is tension in the polytechnic, adding that “the school is calm, academic and nonacademic activities is going on well,” especially as they are prepares for the 2019 convocation activities.

 

According to him; “contrary to news making the round in some sections of the media, particularly the online, the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi- Uku is calm and have no form of crisis or tension. The Polytechnic is calm and normal activities relating to both academic and nonacademic are going on peacefully.

 

“The Governing Council of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi- Uku is not in any way trying to force anybody on the institution in whatever capacity, the Governing Council of our great institution is known for following rules and regulations governing the institution and as it relate to the appointment of the Polytechnic Librarian the institution published, short listed and conducted interview as required by law and which is very commendable.”

 

Meanwhile, the school authority has announced the date of the 2^nd combined convocation to hold on the 12 of October 2019, at the permanent site of the institution.

 

The management has also reduce the payment of the convocation pack from N10, 000 to N8,000  for the benefit of our graduands.

 

Meanwhile, Advocate independent investigation reveals that was an attempt by the Governing Council chairman of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi Uku to Impose his choice candidates as the school librarian but was resisted leading internal crisis.

 

According an informed source in the school, “the process of recruitment is being interfered with by the decision of the Chairman of the Governing Board to impose on Dr. Alex Obuh, who does not have the relevant and cognate experience to be the chief librarian, contrary to the laid down guideline as advertised on the Vanguard Newspaper of May 27th, 2019 by the institution and followed by the committee headed by Dr. J.U Akajakpor, a Chief Lecturer of the institution.

 

The school in its advertorial stated that applicants should possess the required academic qualification, and cognate experience of 15 years in an academic environment.

 

However from the list of shortlisted candidates of the 8 applicants, the committee approved for consideration, Mr. Aniogbolu A. Chukwudi, Dr. D.O Akparobor, Mr. Akpokurerie Azino Oscar as qualified, while Ogochukwu T. Emiri (Ph.D), Dr. Alex Obuh, Rev. Marvelous N.B Nwajei, Ehiwuogwu E. Mercy, and Irivwieri J. W, were disqualified for the position following the laid down guidelines by the school authority for the committee member.

 

In the case on Dr. Alex Obuh, the committee discovered that, though to his credit, he had published in 15 journals, 5 chapters’ contribution in a textbook and presented 6 conferences papers, he was deficient in the number of years of work experience, as he has 11 years cognate experience, as against 15 years required. It was also discovered at the time of screening, he has no national youths service certificate.

 

Further investigation also revealed that on the day of the interview, to the dismay of the panel Dr. Obuh was present and  was been engineered by the chairman of the board, and has been going about boasting that the chairman of the board had assured him of the job of chief librarian of the Polytechnic.
