Mowoe: A Timeless Symbol of Urhobo Advancement – Adjogbe

The Executive Director Projects (EDP), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engr  Samuel Adjogbe FNSE, has described iconic figure, Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe (The Oyinvwin of Urhobo land), as an inspiration for the advancement of the Urhobo nation.

Engr Adjogbe made this remark on Sunday, during the 70th Memorial Thanksgiving Service of the Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe, held at St. Andrews Anglican Cathedral, Okere, Warri, Delta State.

The late Chief Mukoro Mowoe who hails from Evwreni Kingdom, was the first President General of Urhobo Progressive Union.

Speaking at the event, Adjogbe said; “I have always being a firm believer in the track records and leadership qualities of the Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe. And coincidentally, my traditional title (Oyinvwin) also happens to be same as that of this great Urhobo leader of all time.”

Reputed as being the first Urhobo man appointed into the Western Regional Assembly, Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe was an embodiment of selflessness and relentless advocate for the common good of the Urhobo nation.

Addressing pressmen after the memorial service, Adjogbe noted that, “history still has records of how amongst other efforts, Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe fought for the improvement of budgetary allocation to the Warri province to improve on education.”

EDP also noted how as first elected President General of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), “the popular Urhobo College we hear about today, was founded under his watch.”

Adding that, “our very own Government College Ughelli still pays tribute of her existence to him; an institution which has produced several great personalities in the country.”

Extolling the sterling qualities of the selfless custodian of the Urhobo common interest, Adjogbe stressed that “Late Chief Mukoro Mowoe’s legacies remain an inspiration to every true Urhobo sons and daughters, till date.”

The event was attended by eminent dignitaries which include; leader of the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC); Olorogun O’tega Emerhor OON, UPU President; Olorogun Moses Taiga,  Barr Fred Olokor, Dr  Obuivwievbi Ominimini, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, Comr. Monday Oyeghe, several traditional rulers of the Urhobo nation and others.
