The Kwara Internal Revenue Service (Kw-IRS) and the Kwara Hospital Management Board (Kw-HMB) have said that they are working together to achieve better revenue generation for the state.

The Executive Chairman of Kw-IRS, Mrs Shade Omoniyi, said this at a day seminar for health workers in the state on Wednesday in Ilorin.

Omoniyi said the seminar was to further enhance effective revenue drive.

She said that the revenue generated in state hospitals was reducing, saying one of the government’s business is Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

She said that some health workers divert government funds into their personal accounts, adding that all bills are to be collected by Kw-IRS staff.

She said that some measures were being put in place to curb such acts with intensive monitoring of collection and processes through the collaboration with Kw-HMB.

“This internally generated revenue is what the government uses in providing basic amenities such as roads, water, healthcare, electricity and payment of salary to the people.

“The Kw-IRS and Kw-HMB are working together to achieve set goals,” she explained.

The executive secretary appealed to health workers to desist from defrauding the government of revenue, adding that perpetrators will not be spared.

The Director, Legal and Compliance, Kw-IRS, Mr Shehu Abdullahi, said the revenue service had a mandate and anybody caught stealing or diverting public fund into personal account would be prosecuted.

Alhaji Tejidini Abdulwahab, the Controller, Finance and Accounts, Hospital Management Board, explained the importance of book keeping and admonished.

Tejidini advised health workers to always keep record of all the activities performed to prevent them from getting into trouble.

The Rxecutive Secretary, Kw-HMB, Dr Abdulraheem Malik, appreciated the Kw-IRS for hosting the seminar, while imploring all health workers to adhere to all that was said so as not to be used as scape goat.

One of the participants, Mrs Taiye Adio, said the seminar was a refresher and reminder of what is expected of them as civil servants and as health workers.

Adio thanked the organisers of the seminar while pledging her dedication and commitment to work.
