2 docked for alleged assault, breach of peace

Two men, Vincent Emeka and Shakiru Balogun, have been dragged before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged breach of peace.

The defendants are standing trial before Magistrate D.S Odukoya, on a two-count charge of assault and causing a breach of peace.

They defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Esther Adesulu, alleged that the defendants committed the offence on June 23 at the Etegbin area of Ojo .

She alleged that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner capable of breaching public peace, by inciting members of their neighbourhood against a staff of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

According to the prosecutor, the defendants used a cutlass to beat up Samuel Ayodele and consequently caused him body injury.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 168 and 173 f the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The court granted the defendants bails in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until July 27 for trial.
