Governor Dauda Lawal inaugurated a Violent Crime Response Unit in Fegin Kanawa village on Tuesday. The move is designed to combat insecurity and protect farming communities across Zamfara State.
During the ceremony, Lawal praised the Inspector-General of Police for creating the unit. He called it a strategic and timely response to violent crime in the region.
State Commissioner of Police Ahmad Muhammad Bello also received commendation from the governor. Lawal credited him with implementing proactive strategies to restore public confidence in affected areas.
Bello told reporters his command would remain focused on eliminating banditry statewide. He thanked the state government for backing security operations and community safety work.
Officers assigned to the new unit have completed specialized training programs, according to Bello. The training emphasizes professionalism, accountability, and human rights protections under the Nigeria Police Act 2020.
Police urged residents to report suspicious activities immediately. Citizens can contact emergency lines with information about criminal activities in their neighborhoods.
Security agencies are stepping up collaboration with farming communities, officials said. Both the police and state government want rapid response to threats affecting rural areas.
