Police in Kano state have arrested a 25-year-old woman for severing her boyfriend's genitals after learning he planned to marry someone else. The Kano State Police Command disclosed this through a statement released Monday by spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa.
The suspect, from Maigatari Local Government Area in Jigawa state, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a sharp knife at Durbar Hotel in Badawa. Hotel management alerted authorities to the incident.
Officers from Badawa Division arrived at the scene and found the victim had suffered severe injury during the assault. Police recovered the knife used in the attack as evidence and arrested the suspect on the spot.
Medical personnel rushed the victim to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he remains under care. "The suspect was arrested, and the weapon, a sharp knife, was recovered as an exhibit," Haruna-Kiyawa said in a statement.
He added: "Investigation is ongoing."
In a separate incident, police arrested three people—a married couple and another man—over the killing of Abubakar Auwal, 30. The arrest came after the three allegedly lured Auwal to a location on July 24 to attack him.
According to the police account, the two male suspects, aged 40 and 27 respectively, accused Auwal of trying to seduce the wife of the older man. Officers responded to a report from Sheka Division at around midday.
When police arrived, they found Auwal badly beaten and unconscious. The three suspects were arrested at the scene, and paramedics transported the victim to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Medical doctors on duty confirmed Auwal dead upon examination. His body has been kept at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
"The corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy. Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion," Haruna-Kiyawa noted.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori condemned both acts of violence in strong terms. He urged residents to stop taking justice into their own hands under any circumstances.
"The Nigeria Police Force is constitutionally empowered to investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders through due process," he said.
The commissioner promised that his command would carry out investigations into both cases with diligence, transparency, and thoroughness. He vowed that all suspects would face court and be prosecuted according to the law once investigations conclude.
