The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri, has called on sons and daughters of Irri Kingdom to embrace peace, unity, and collaboration to advance the kingdom's development.
Warri made this appeal on Wednesday during the presentation of the staff of office to the Odio-Ologbo of Irri Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Simon Wajutome Odhomo (Igbogidi 1), by the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who was ably represented by his deputy, Monday Onyeme. He emphasized the critical role traditional rulers play in fostering peace, security, and harmony within their communities.
The chairman urged all indigenes of Irri, both at home and abroad, to unite and support the newly installed monarch in his efforts to promote the kingdom's development and progress. “Today marks a new era for Irri Kingdom with the ascension of His Royal Majesty, the Odio-Ologbo, to the ancestral throne. His wisdom and royal counsel will be invaluable in advancing peace and security, which are essential for the economic and socio-political development of our land,” Warri stated.
Warri praised the cultural significance of traditional rulers, acknowledging them as custodians of heritage and vital players in ensuring community cohesion. He noted that the leadership of HRM Igbogidi 1 would strengthen the kingdom's resolve to achieve unity and progress.
During the presentation ceremony, the state governor’s representative highlighted the importance of traditional rulers as a bridge between government and local communities. The deputy governor reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting traditional institutions and charged the monarch to leverage his position to promote peace, stability, and inclusivity among his subjects.
The event attracted a large turnout of residents, indigenes, and well-wishers, including youths, elders, vigilante groups, and transporters. The streets were filled with jubilant chants of “IGBOGIDI 1” as the people celebrated their new monarch with pride and enthusiasm.
In a touching display of unity, prayers were offered by Christian clerics and traditionalists alike, invoking blessings and prosperity for the Irri Kingdom under the reign of HRM Igbogidi 1. The colorful procession reflected the kingdom’s deep cultural pride and reverence for its traditional institutions, marking a hopeful new chapter for the community.
