Senate President Godswill Akpabio has pledged that the federal government will tackle Nigeria's security crisis and make it history. He gave the commitment on Wednesday when members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by National President Dr Lima Ahmed, visited him at the National Assembly.
Akpabio told the delegation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is treating the insecurity challenge with urgency. He pointed to the recent rescue of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State as evidence of the administration's resolve.
"The current administration is doing a whole lot, and I can assure you that very soon, the issue of insecurity would be a thing of the past," he said.
The Senate President cautioned against relying solely on social media narratives about the country's security situation. He argued that such platforms don't give an accurate picture of what's happening on the ground.
During the meeting, Akpabio also addressed women's participation in politics. He said some women who previously held political office damaged their own cause by misusing their positions, creating reluctance among women to support each other during elections.
The Senate President assured the Ladies Golf Association of his backing for their upcoming international tournament scheduled for the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja. He pledged Senate support for the event.
Dr Ahmed, on her part, thanked Akpabio for the audience. She formally invited him to the tournament and conferred on him the title of Grand Patron of the association.
