VP Shettima Urges Responsible Expression of Economic Grievances Amid Hardship

Pre-Ramadan lecture organized by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Muslim Alumni, Vice President Kashim Shettima addressed the current economic hardship in Nigeria and called for a responsible and mature expression of grievances by the citizens.

Speaking on behalf of the VP, Hakeem Baba- Ahmed, his special adviser on political matters, highlighted that the federal government is aware of the challenges faced by the Nigerian people and has chosen difficult but necessary policies to address the economic crisis.

With the theme “Economic Reforms for Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects for the Future,” the event saw the Vice President acknowledging the difficult choices and sacrifices that the President Bola Tinubu-led administration has to make, which may be more telling on the poor.

Nigerians, including various states like Lagos, Imo, Kaduna, and Oyo, have recently staged protests to express their concerns over the hunger and high cost of living in the country.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also organized a nationwide mass protest on February 27 to voice their grievances.

In his speech, VP Shettima emphasized that the government does not intend to make the lives of its citizens more difficult or deceive them about the challenges ahead.

He urged fellow alumni to help create space for the administration to achieve its goal of turning the nation around.

As the nation approaches the forthcoming Ramadan, the Vice President acknowledged that it will bring severe challenges for most Nigerians.

However, he expressed faith in the power of prayer and the belief that God will ease the hardship.

With the ongoing economic crisis, the Nigerian government is taking steps to address the challenges and pave the way for a brighter future.

By choosing difficult but necessary policies, the administration hopes to turn the nation around and create a more prosperous Nigeria for all its citizens.
