Suleiman Abubakar Gummi, the House of Representatives member for Bukkuyum/Gummi Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, has raised alarm over a sharp increase in bandit attacks ravaging the state. He described the security situation as deeply troubling and demanded that authorities ramp up their operations to contain the threat.
Gummi issued the warning in a statement he personally signed and released to journalists in Gusau on Monday. The lawmaker stressed that relentless banditry continues to endanger residents and destroy livelihoods across his constituency and wider Zamfara.
Despite being away on official business outside Nigeria, Gummi said he's been receiving constant updates about the attacks. He told reporters he's been passing intelligence to the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to facilitate swift action.
The congressman praised troops and police for their dedication and courage in the face of mounting pressure. However, he urged them to shift tactics and deploy sharper strategies to dismantle armed gangs and establish sustainable peace in the state.
Gummi pledged to back security forces through material support and logistical aid to boost their capacity on the ground. He said he remains committed to working with the agencies to turn the tide against insurgency.
The lawmaker also called on communities to strengthen their partnership with security personnel by sharing credible intelligence about bandit movements. He appealed for prayers for the restoration of lasting peace and an end to the banditry scourge affecting Zamfara.
