Uvwie council boss warns against indiscriminate dumping of refuse

 By Godwin Utuedoye,

Honourable Ransom Onoyake, Executive Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council of Delta State has said the council will not tolerate the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by the residents of Okoloba and Ohre-Sapele road in their area.
Speaking on Saturday, March 31, 2018 during the monthly environmental sanitation excersis, the chairman said; indiscriminate dumping of refuse does not only deface the beauty of the town but also causes serious diseases and other health damages/hazards to those living around the area.
Hon. Onoyake noted that site in Okoloba and Ohre-Sapele roads are not government approved dump sites hence appealed to the people to comply and subscribe to the acquisition of waste bins from the PSP Operators.
He called on all to ensure their refuse and dirts are handed to the PSP Operators who will now evacuate their refuses by taking their refuse to government approved dump sites on their behalf at a cheaper rate.
“I want to use this opportunity to sound a very  clear  warning to you all to prepare your waste bin  them that will not take it.
“If anybody should be caught, we will hold them responsible, the law will take its normal cause. The should a apply
Hon. Onoyake also stated that the Uvwie Local Government did not approved posting of bill boards on the median along Jakpa road.
He said that it is “illegal” for anyone to seek approval from the council to put any signpost on the median.
According to Hon.Onoyake,”The median is not for is not bill boards. So, that is why we are going
round to see how we can clear all the boards on the median.”
Hon. Onoyake said,”So, I want to appeal that traders, business owners should stay away from the median  as in putting their bill boards on the median. After this day, if anyone is found on the median, we will know how to go about it.” I want to agree that 50% of the sign posts we found on the media are of churches. I wouldn’t want to say am sounding a warning to them, am appealing to them they should do what is right. Am appealing to churches that the median is not the best place for them to put their signs.
In as much as we as Government at the local level, we have made up our minds that churches will develop freely without paying money to community development or anything they call “deve” . We want to agree that we have done our part, they too should assist us by helping us clearing the median. The signposts should be in front of their churches not on the median.”
