The United States carried out fresh strikes on Iran on Wednesday, according to US Central Command. The military action came after Washington restored a naval blockade around Iranian ports.
US forces "began launching a wave of strikes... designed to further degrade military capabilities Iranian forces have used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said in a statement on X.
The strikes mark an escalation in the conflict between Washington and Tehran. Iran has been targeting American allies across the Gulf region.
Iranian officials vowed the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed "until the US ends its aggression." The blockade represents a sharp return to direct military confrontation between the two nations.
