America has condemned what it calls "reckless" calls by Hezbollah to topple Lebanon's elected government. Washington says the militant group refuses to stop attacking Israel or honor ceasefire agreements.

According to U.S. officials, Hezbollah continues firing on Israeli targets. The organization is also moving fighters and weapons into southern Lebanon, the State Department said.

The Trump administration backs Lebanon's government in its recovery efforts. Officials say America supports Beirut's push for reconstruction and international aid.

A State Department statement read: "The era in which a terrorist group held an entire nation hostage is coming to an end." Washington vowed Hezbollah's threats of violence won't succeed.

Hezbollah, the U.S. argues, wants to drag Lebanon back into instability. The group is working against the country's interests, American officials told reporters.

But Hezbollah leaders have already rejected any deals from Lebanon-Israel talks held in Washington. They've made clear they won't accept such agreements.

Last week, America imposed sanctions on nine people. Officials accused them of helping Hezbollah weaken Lebanon's sovereignty.

Those sanctioned include members of parliament and a Lebanese security official. An Iranian diplomat also faced designation.

U.S. officials said the individuals blocked Hezbollah's disarmament efforts. Washington linked their actions to Iran's "malicious agenda" in Lebanon.
