A Sokoto State High Court has handed down death sentences to three men convicted of terrorism and illegal weapons dealing.
Among those condemned to death by hanging are Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau, who is a Nigerien national. Two Nigerians, Jabbi Alhaji Yalle and Kabiru Muhammad, received the same sentence.
Security agents arrested all three on June 13, 2025. The Department of State Services Counter-Terrorism Unit picked them up over cross-border crimes and arms trafficking.
Justice Bello presided over the case. He found each defendant guilty on all counts brought against them.
The court ordered seizure of money recovered from the three men. All seized funds will go to the Federal Government.
Just seven days earlier, a similar death sentence came down in Katsina. A Federal High Court there condemned Hauwa'u Mukhtar for smuggling ammunition to a bandit leader.
Mukhtar had been caught transporting 438 rounds of ammunition. DSS operatives arrested her before the delivery could happen.
An Abuja Federal High Court also handed down death sentences recently. Four men — Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, and Abdulhaleem Idris — died in attacks on worshippers in Owo.
Over 40 people lost their lives in those Ondo State attacks. All four had been arrested by the DSS.
Last week, Kogi State got another conviction. A High Court in Lokoja sentenced Jibrin Halilu to death by hanging.
Halilu faced charges of conspiracy and kidnapping. He was also accused of murdering a hotelier in Obajana.
