Tragic Explosion in Ibadan Leaves Two Dead, 77 Injured

A massive explosion rocked the city of Ibadan on Tuesday evening, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving 77 others injured. The incident occurred at a residential area in Bodija, causing widespread panic and destruction.

According to preliminary investigations by the security agencies, the explosion was caused by illegal miners who had stored explosive devices in one of the buildings in the area.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State confirmed the findings and assured the public that those found culpable would be brought to justice.

The blast was so powerful that it was felt in various parts of the city, with some residents reporting shattered windows and damaged walls.

The explosion also affected several buildings, including the Governor’s Office, the Secretariat, the Oyo State House of Assembly, and the residence of the late Chief Bola Ige, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

Rescue operations have been ongoing since the incident, with earth-moving equipment, ambulances, emergency lights, and security personnel deployed to the scene.

The wounded and injured were taken to both public and private hospitals within Ibadan, where medical personnel are on standby to provide assistance.

Governor Makinde visited the University College Hospital to see some of those injured during the incident and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

He also confirmed that 77 people were injured, with most of them being treated and discharged, while two people lost their lives.

The incident has left the city in mourning, and the government has pledged to support the families of the victims and ensure that those responsible for the explosion are held accountable.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal mining activities and the need for stronger regulations to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
