A gold-colored Toyota plunged off Eruku Bridge on Sunday night. Eleven people died in the tragedy.
The vehicle, registered as GGE722KJ, somersaulted and fell onto the expressway below. All occupants were trapped inside as doors locked on impact.
The accident occurred along the Abeokuta-Lagos expressway in Ogun State. Ogun Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi confirmed the incident through a statement.
Among the deceased were 10 adult males and one adult female. A team from the Itori unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps rushed to the scene.
Rescue workers and local residents worked together to dismantle the wrecked vehicle. They recovered all eleven bodies and transported them to the State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.
Ogunjobi blamed driving under the influence and overloading for the crash. He extended condolences to families of those who perished in the accident.
The sector commander urged motorists to be extra careful on the route. Night driving demands heightened vigilance, he stressed to travelers.
