‘Total Disregard for Nigerians’ Plight’: PRP Slams FG Over Electricity Tariff Hike

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly condemned the Federal Government’s decision to increase electricity tariffs by over 300%, labeling it as a move that displays a total disregard for the plight of the Nigerian people.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Party criticized the insensitivity of the tariff hike, especially in light of the recent removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved a tariff increase to N225 ($0.15) per kilowatt-hour from N68 for urban consumers starting this month.

The PRP argues that this hike will only exacerbate the already difficult living conditions faced by millions of Nigerians.

The Party has called upon the government to reconsider its decision and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.

Furthermore, it has urged the authorities to explore alternative solutions, such as investing in renewable energy sources like solar, biogas, and wind energy, to alleviate the suffering of the people.

The statement highlights the need for empathy, understanding, and concerted efforts to uplift the people, rather than implementing policies that deepen their hardship.

The PRP’s response reflects the broader concerns within Nigeria regarding the economic challenges and the impact of government policies on the daily lives of its citizens.

As the debate continues over the electricity tariff hike and its implications for Nigeria’s economy and citizens, the government’s response to the concerns raised by the PRP and other stakeholders will be closely watched.

The outcome of this controversy may have significant implications for Nigeria’s energy sector and the broader political landscape.
