Military troops have killed a suspected female ISWAP/JAS spy in Borno state while conducting separate operations that resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects across the country, including IPOB/ESN members, cultists and a deserter soldier. The News Agency of Nigeria reported the developments on Saturday.
Soldiers at 222 Battalion's Forward Operating Base Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area spotted the suspect approaching their position via CCTV cameras from the Sambisa direction. Troops neutralised her before she could breach the defensive perimeter.
In the Federal Capital Territory, Operation MESA troops apprehended a deserter from 13 Brigade at a checkpoint in Bwari Area Council. They recovered a military uniform and a vehicle during the arrest.
The same operation intercepted another vehicle carrying suspected stolen armoured cables and arrested the driver for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.
Operation UDO KA troops in the South-East detained five suspected IPOB/ESN members at Etuekwe Junction in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo state. The arrests happened at a secluded location believed to be a transit route for the militant group.
Troops from 82 Division Garrison and 103 Battalion, working alongside other security agencies, arrested eight suspected cultists at Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu. Preliminary investigations linked them to terrorist activities in border communities between Enugu and Ebonyi states.
All suspects have been handed to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution. Operations Desert Sanity V, FANSAN YAMMA and Savannah Shield reported no major incidents during the review period.
The International Committee of the Red Cross Sub-Delegation in Maiduguri visited Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI/MNJTF at Kinnasara Cantonment in Monguno, Borno. The ICRC team briefed the sector commander on its humanitarian mandate and plans to promote International Humanitarian Law while supporting conflict-affected populations across the Lake Chad Basin region.
