Senate Minority Whip Tony Nwoye has left the African Democratic Congress for the Nigerian Democratic Congress. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the switch during Wednesday's plenary session.

Akpabio instructed the Clerk to update Senate records immediately. Nwoye's letter, read aloud on the floor, cited deep problems within his former party.

Internal rifts had crippled ADC's foundation, Nwoye argued in the correspondence. Multiple court cases at the Federal High Court worsened the damage, according to him.

"I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the African Democratic Congress and my intention to defect to the Nigerian Democratic Congress," the letter stated. He added that ongoing litigations and court judgments had destabilized the party's structure.

Nwoye's exit follows a pattern of high-profile departures from ADC. Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and ex-Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso both abandoned the party in recent months.

The defections signal growing instability within ADC's ranks. Party insiders have grown increasingly frustrated with the leadership direction.
