Tinubu’s administration is prioritising investment in human capital

The Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, has declared that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is investing in human capital and related sectors because the people are Nigeria’s treasure.

He made this statement at the Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA) Annual Lecture and Awards ceremony in Abuja last weekend, according to a press release by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday.

He said, “We ask for the support and trust of all Nigerians. In exchange, we have promised to lead the nation towards building a more resilient economy, despite the current difficulties that we wish we could avoid.”

He added, “The people are Nigeria’s treasure. We have to revive and teach our youth the noble values of service, honesty, and hard work. As an administration, we have very specific priorities we believe must be accomplished.

Shettima was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters (Office of the Vice President), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

He said that the theme of the annual lecture “broadens the perspective for a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges at the intersection between the citizen and the state.

Speaking on behalf of the VP at the event, Baba-Ahmed noted that the quality of the country’s human assets will determine the direction Nigeria is heading.

He said, “We are weighed down by past and present challenges, which will require enormous efforts to overcome. We are also called by our greatness, for which we have been well equipped by our huge resources in human and other areas. The difference in which direction we go will depend on the quality of our human assets.

He said, “The decisions we make today will be crucial in determining whether we just continue to grow a population or we build a strong economy to support and improve the lives of a huge citizenry because we have invested in developing the quality of our population through good and relevant education, health services, informed access to developing opportunities in technology, and growing our natural resources.”
