President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to change their value system in order for the country to make significant progress.
The President made these remarks during a visit from a delegation from the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on the occasion of Eid-el Kabir in Lagos.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for Nigerians to shift from a "rent-seeking mindset" to a more productive one, and to stop all forms of economic sabotage, including the stealing of rail tracks and electric cables.
He stressed the importance of embracing a campaign to change the country's value system.
"We must tell our people that the challenge we face is for all of us to change our mindset about our country," the President said.
He also commended the leadership of the National Assembly for their support, which has resulted in important developments for his administration.
President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges ahead but assured the nation of his determination to turn things around.
"It is daunting, but we cannot run away from the fact that this country must survive the hardship," he said.
Senate President Akpabio, speaking after the meeting, thanked the President for his purposeful leadership in the first year of his administration and expressed the National Assembly's commitment to improving the nation's ease of doing business through legislative changes.
"Looking forward, the National Assembly will tinker with some existing legislations to further improve on the nation’s ease of doing business," Mr Akpabio said.
President Tinubu's call for a change in value system comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with economic challenges, and his administration is focused on bringing about transformative change.
