President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged Nigeria's ongoing security crisis and vowed to work more closely with communities to fight insecurity across the nation.
He made these remarks while accepting the APC presidential ticket for the 2027 elections. The commitment came during his acceptance speech at the party's primary.
"I take seriously the responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of every Nigerian," Tinubu said at the event.
According to him, his government has poured resources into intelligence gathering and modern security equipment. Officials have also strengthened ties with local communities, he noted.
Tinubu emphasized that the administration continues backing the armed forces and police with needed support. These efforts, he said, target the root causes of the security problem.
He also called on lawmakers to act urgently on state police creation. Constitutional amendments will be necessary, in his words, to make this happen.
"We expect the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of state police as a matter of national emergency," the president told supporters.
Upon receiving his party flag and certificate, Tinubu pledged unrelenting efforts toward national peace. He promised stability across every region of the country.
"We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country," he stated firmly.
His vision includes a Nigeria where citizens can live and work without fear. Development and security must go hand in hand, he believes.
Tinubu praised the APC's track record since 2015 when the party first won power. Economic progress over his three years deserves recognition, he argued.
Yet much remains unfinished, according to the president. He promised even greater determination in serving the nation.
A second term would allow Nigeria to achieve industrial growth and energy security, he predicted. Food sufficiency and infrastructure development are also priorities, he added.
Democratic consolidation rounds out his agenda for the coming years. Four more years of focus and cooperation will set Nigeria on an irreversible path forward, Tinubu contended.
