Timipre Sylva Restored as APC Candidate for Bayelsa Election by Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the judgement of the Federal High Court that barred Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC from contesting the Bayelsa governorship election.

Justice Binta Zubairu, who delivered the verdict, said the lower court erred in assuming jurisdiction over the case because the plaintiff who filed the suit did not have locus standi, having not participated in the APC primary election that nominated Sylva as the party’s candidate.

She said the judgement of the lower court was futile and ordered INEC to reinstate Sylva as a candidate for the November 11 poll.

This verdict requires INEC to include Sylva in the list of APC candidates for the Bayelsa governorship election.
