The Peoples Redemption Party has approved three candidates to battle for its presidential nomination.
A primary election is scheduled for May 25, 2025, across the country. Direct voting by party members will determine the party's flag bearer.
Dr. Nnaoke Ufere represents Abia State among the three aspirants.
Engr. Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley is from Edo State, while Donald Duke hails from Cross River.
Duke previously served as governor of Cross River State. His entry into the race marks a significant development for the opposition party.
Party spokesman Comrade Muhammed Ishaq confirmed the clearance on Saturday. He told journalists the three aspirants have pledged to respect the primary process.
"They've unanimously agreed to submit their aspirations to the will of our party members," Ishaq noted in a statement. The candidates acknowledged the importance of internal party democracy.
Ishaq praised the quality of candidates vying for the ticket. According to him, their commitment to democratic principles has strengthened the party considerably.
Beyond the presidential race, over 260 aspirants are competing for various positions. PRP says it'll conduct credible and transparent primaries throughout the process.
The party remains committed to upholding democratic values. Officials stressed that fairness will guide all decisions during the primary elections.
Consensus-building will be pursued where possible among the candidates. However, direct voting will settle contests where agreement cannot be reached.
PRP's leadership believes the primary will showcase the party's democratic credentials. Party officials expressed confidence in the integrity of the process ahead.
