Kidnappers have demanded an additional N300 million from the family of Ahmed Mohammed, the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission's permanent commissioner, more than nine months after his abduction. The family has already paid N40 million to the abductors in an attempt to secure his freedom.

Mohammed was seized on September 29, 2025, while driving along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area en route to Minna for official duties. The abduction occurred just days before the November 1, 2025 local government elections in which he was scheduled to play an official role.

The kidnappers contacted the family again on Monday with their fresh demand, according to a family member who spoke anonymously. The source said the criminals call almost daily, pressing for the N300 million payment, though they made no contact on Tuesday.

The family said it cannot raise the additional sum requested by the abductors. "We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release," the family member told Daily Trust.

The relative stressed that Mohammed was kidnapped while executing duties assigned by the state government. "He was kidnapped while on an official engagement of the Niger State Government," the family member said.
