Nigeria’s Super Falcons pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling Women’s Africa Cup of Nations showdown on Saturday.
Morocco raced to a 2–0 lead in the first half, with Ghizlane Chebbak opening the scoring in the 12th minute and Sanaâ Mssoudy doubling the advantage in the 24th minute.
But the Super Falcons roared back after the break. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty in the 64th minute to reduce the deficit, before Folashade Florence Ijamilusi drew Nigeria level with a cool finish in the 71st minute.
With just two minutes left on the clock, Jennifer Echegini netted the winner, completing a dramatic turnaround for the Nigerian side.
Nigeria dominated key statistics, registering 14 shots (5 on target) to Morocco’s 10, enjoying 55% possession, and earning five corners to Morocco’s three. They also completed 280 passes with 69% accuracy.
Despite the intensity, the match remained disciplined, with no bookings. Nigeria committed seven fouls, while Morocco tallied 12.
