The Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, has described the just-concluded South-South Zonal Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a defining moment for regional unity and political consolidation.
Speaking with journalists after the congress, Ahon said the exercise's peaceful conduct marked the beginning of a new era of cooperation and alignment among South-South states under a common political platform.
He commended governors and party leaders in the region for demonstrating what he called “wisdom and foresight” in rallying under the APC ahead of future elections, noting that the development would significantly boost the region’s influence in national politics.
“This is a congress of unity and consolidation. After a very long time, the South-South zone is coming together under one political party to actualise the aspirations and dreams of the people,” Ahon stated.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the region, he noted that the South-South, as a major contributor to Nigeria’s economy, stands to gain more by aligning with the ruling party at the centre to unlock greater development opportunities.
Ahon also charged the newly elected zonal executives to sustain the unity achieved, urging them to promote peace, cooperation, and inclusiveness to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.
“They must work in unity and ensure that peace and harmony prevail. It is only through unity that we can achieve our collective goals and deliver the zone politically,” he added.
He further pointed to the high-level participation at the congress—including governors, the Senate President, members of the National and State Assemblies, and other stakeholders—as evidence of growing cohesion and shared commitment within the region.
The congress, widely regarded as a milestone for the APC in the South-South, ended peacefully, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the party’s future and the region’s political trajectory under a unified platform.
