Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has called for a comprehensive new security framework to safeguard students as schools reopen following the recent abductions in Oyo State. He praised the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the military, the Department of State Services, and the police for securing the release of the kidnapped pupils and teachers.

Sani took to X to express his relief at the development. "It's relieving to learn that the abducted Oyo pupils have been released.

Kudos to the NSA Ribadu, the military, DSS, the NPF and all those whose efforts led to this success," he wrote.

The former legislator stressed the urgency of implementing stronger protections before students return to classrooms. "As schools wind up for the summer vacation, a new national schools security framework is needed to protect students when they return," Sani added on the social media platform.

The abducted pupils and teachers from Orire in Oyo State regained their freedom after spending 50 days in captivity. President Bola Tinubu's spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the successful release on Friday through a post on X.

"Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo, have been freed by their abductors," Onanuga wrote in his announcement. The release marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat the growing menace of school abductions across Nigeria.
