Shehu Sani wants to return to the Senate in 2027. The former Kaduna Central lawmaker spoke about his plans on Channels Television's Sunday Politics programme.
He pointed out that Nigeria's laws permit multiple Senate bids. There's no term limit for National Assembly positions, he explained.
Sani believes his constituents want him back in the chamber. He says he has more work to deliver for them.
Most Nigerians focus too much on who becomes president, he noted. They don't pay enough attention to their lawmakers, at state or federal level.
According to him, this attitude is a serious mistake. A strong Senate matters enormously for the nation's governance.
He stressed that senators must be independent and principled. They must also protect their personal integrity, he added.
When lawmakers like that are in place, good governance follows. That's why Senate representation deserves much greater public scrutiny than it gets.
Sani previously represented Kaduna Central in the upper chamber. He's confident he can serve the district again if elected.
