Nigerian music sensation Seyi Vibez recently opened up about a harrowing experience of being scammed by someone posing as Wizkid’s manager while attempting to join the prestigious Starboy Entertainment at the tender age of 13.
The artist shared his unfortunate encounter during a candid interview with Wazobia 95.1 Lagos, shedding light on the dark side of the music industry.
Seyi Vibez, known for his hit song “Cana,” recounted how he had always dreamt of being part of the Starboy crew and turned to Google to search for “how to register for Starboy Entertainment.”
This innocent search led him to a phone number claiming to belong to Wizkid’s manager.
Believing he had found a legitimate opportunity, Seyi Vibez reached out to the person on the other end of the line.
The scammer requested a payment of N10,000 for a registration form, promising a screening process and the chance to perform for Wizkid himself.
With unwavering hope in his heart, the young artist sold his phone to raise the required funds.
However, after making the payment, he was abruptly blocked by the scammer, leaving him heartbroken and without his phone.
Seyi Vibez shared this cautionary tale to warn others about the potential dangers of online registration for record labels.
He advised against registering online and encouraged aspiring artists to be vigilant and cautious when pursuing their dreams in the music industry.
The Nigerian music scene is no stranger to such scams, and Seyi Vibez’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the importance of due diligence and skepticism when navigating the often treacherous waters of the entertainment world.
As the industry continues to evolve, it is crucial for both established and aspiring artists to remain vigilant and protect themselves from the ever-present threat of fraud and deception.
