Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye fired Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko on Friday night. He also dissolved the entire government in a presidential decree broadcast on state television.

A presidential aide read the announcement. It stated that Faye had "ended the duties of Ousmane Sonko" and all cabinet ministers and secretaries of state.

No successor to Sonko has been named yet. The sacking comes after months of visible tension between the two leaders.

Earlier this week, Sonko publicly attacked President Faye during a parliamentary session. His criticism exposed deep rifts within the ruling coalition.

Observers say the two men have clashed over party control and governance strategy. Disagreements on managing state affairs also fueled the conflict.

Political analysts warn this could worsen instability in Senegal. The country already faces mounting debt and economic strain.

Officials within the ruling coalition will now hold consultations to find a new prime minister. A fresh cabinet is expected to follow shortly.

Sources close to government confirmed the tensions had been building for months. The Friday decision marks the climax of that deteriorating relationship.
