The Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Nigeria has honoured Distinguished Senator Prince (Dr.) Ned Nwoko with the Global Leadership Award, a prestigious recognition for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership on a global scale.
The award presentation, held at the National Assembly, was led by Engr. Comrade Elijah Vitus Echendu, the National Coordinator of the Transnational Intergovernmental Organization in Nigeria. He conveyed the commendation of IHRC's Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, who highlighted Senator Nwoko’s notable contributions in the 10th National Assembly.
Senator Nwoko was recognized for sponsoring several impactful bills in areas critical to the nation’s growth, including economic development, social welfare, and healthcare reforms.
Fidelis Onakpoma, IHRC’s Head of Media and Strategic Communications, praised Senator Nwoko's charismatic leadership, distinguished reputation, and his youth-focused approach, which has garnered widespread support from Nigerian youths at home and abroad.
He urged the Senator to work collectively with his counterparts in the 10th Senate to support President Bola Tinubu's administration in implementing comprehensive police reforms. He stressed the importance of strengthened community policing initiatives to combat issues such as torture, extortion, harassment, extrajudicial killings, and strained relationships between law enforcement and civilians.
In his response, Senator Nwoko highlighted the efforts of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs to enhance police initiatives and promote greater collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
He expressed his gratitude for the Global Leadership Award and reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria.
