Senator Ndume Urges CBN to Focus on Monetary Stability, Inflation, Not Office Relocation

Senator Ali Ndume has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to focus on its primary duties of ensuring monetary stability and tackling inflation rather than shifting its offices to other locations.

The Senator representing Borno South at the National Assembly made this statement in response to the criticism he faced following his comments on the planned relocation of some CBN offices from Abuja to Lagos.

Ndume said that his intervention was based on the irrelevance of the action by the apex bank and that he has no regrets for voicing his concerns.

He added that the subtle blackmail and attacks on his personality and his daughter, who is a staff of the CBN, will not deter him from speaking the truth to power whenever those in charge of the country’s affairs make errors.

Instead of dwelling on the relocation of departments to an already-populated Lagos State, Senator Ndume urged the CBN governor to focus on stabilizing the monetary situation in the country, particularly the spiraling exchange rate and the rising inflation.

He emphasized that he has the right to make certain interventions as a Senator and that he does not speak for the North or the Northern Senators, but in the interest of Nigerians and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he has enormous respect for.

Ndume also addressed claims that he is the mouthpiece of certain groups and that he harbors ill-feelings towards the Yorubas, stating that his two daughters are married to Yoruba men and have given him five Yoruba grandchildren.

He questioned the pan-Nigerian credentials of those attacking him and reiterated his support for President Tinubu, stating that the President appreciates honest feedback and will not tolerate the actions of the political cartel forming around him.

In conclusion, Senator Ndume remains steadfast in his commitment to speaking the truth and pointing out areas where corrections are needed, emphasizing that it is his job as a Senator to do so.
