Senate Ready to Approve Funds for Presidential Jet Repair if Requested by Tinubu
In a recent development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stated that the Senate is prepared to consider and approve funds for the repair of the presidential jet if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requests it.
Akpabio made this announcement during a plenary session after senators returned from their recess for an emergency session to discuss the extension of the 2023 supplementary appropriation act.
The Senate President emphasized that while he has not received any correspondence from the president regarding the need for a new presidential jet due to the current fleet's poor condition, the Senate is committed to addressing issues that improve the living standards of the people and support the president's duties.

Akpabio highlighted the importance of maintaining the presidential fleet, citing the tragic incidents involving the vice president of Malawi and the president of Iran, both of whom lost their lives due to defective aircraft.
He stressed that the Senate would not allow such incidents to occur and would ensure the safety and functionality of the presidential fleet.
Despite the absence of a formal request from President Tinubu, Akpabio assured the public that the Senate would thoroughly evaluate any future requests and prioritize the needs of the country's governance.
He dismissed anticipatory blackmail and reiterated the Senate's responsibility to address necessities that benefit the nation.
As the Senate continues to work on extending the implementation of the 2023 supplementary appropriation act, the issue of the presidential jet remains a topic of discussion, with the Senate prepared to act if necessary to ensure the safety and functionality of the presidential fleet.
