Sanwo-Olu Lauds Tinubu, Umahi for Third Mainland Bridge Reopening; LASTMA Urges Speed Limit Adherence

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for their pivotal roles in the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge.

The bridge, which was closed for extensive repair work, has been reopened following weeks of diligent efforts by the Federal Ministry of Works.

Sanwo-Olu took to his X handle to share his appreciation for Tinubu and Umahi’s expedited focus and attention to detail on the Third Mainland Bridge project.

He highlighted their commitment as a significant factor in the timely and quality completion of the necessary improvements on the bridge.

The governor also extended his thanks to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for their effective traffic management throughout the repair period, and to the road users for their patience during the closure.

The post by Sanwo-Olu read, “I am pleased to announce the full reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge after extended repair works have been completed to ensure its safety and efficiency for all residents.

Your patience and resilience during this period have been paramount in maintaining our city’s economic momentum.”

He went on to express his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, for their expedited focus and attention to detail on the Third Mainland Bridge project.

He emphasized that their commitment has significantly contributed to the timely and quality completion of these necessary improvements.

Sanwo-Olu also thanked the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for their effective traffic management throughout the period, which minimized disruptions and maintained flow, demonstrating the collective strength and ability to overcome challenges.

In light of the smoother journeys that the newly renovated bridge provides, Sanwo-Olu called for a renewed emphasis on road safety.

He emphasized that a shared commitment to safety ensures not only our wellbeing but also the wellbeing of other road users.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a warning to motorists to maintain speed limits while driving on the long stretch of the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.

The General Manager of the Agency, Olalekan Bakare Oki, emphasized that the comprehensively repaired bridge is fascinating to drive on without any impediments, and that this may tempt drivers to exceed speed limits, leading to potential risks and consequences.

LASTMA has assured the public that it will deploy more men, patrol, and recovery vehicles to ensure the safety of motorists and timely rescue intervention on the bridge.

Motorists are urged to be conscious of time and plan their journey ahead to avoid unnecessary speeding while using the bridge and other link roads across the state.

As Lagosians celebrate the reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge and the improved transportation infrastructure it brings, the emphasis on speed limits and road safety serves as a crucial reminder of the need for responsible and safe driving practices.
