In a proactive push to strengthen school safety amid rising concerns over student abductions nationwide, the Delta State Police Command has convened a strategic security meeting with heads of public and private schools across the state.
The engagement, held on December 17, 2025, was convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, and led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The session brought together 62 school heads and teachers, alongside the Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, George Efeizomor, and other education stakeholders.
Discussions focused on practical measures to harden school security, including perimeter fencing, installation of surveillance cameras, engagement of local vigilantes, and stronger collaboration between schools and security agencies. Emerging challenges such as parental interference and the misuse of mobile phones during school hours were also highlighted.
Addressing participants, ACP Efeizomor assured schools of sustained police support and urged administrators to maintain direct communication with Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders. Emergency control room numbers were shared to ensure swift reporting and rapid response.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment, CP Abaniwonda, through DCP Adejobi, said adequate deployments, intelligence-led patrols and rapid response mechanisms have been activated across Delta State, with particular attention to school environments during the ember months. He stressed that while Delta remains relatively peaceful, collective vigilance was essential to sustain safety.
The Police Command called on school administrators, parents and community leaders to continue supporting security efforts to protect students, teachers and school facilities, underscoring that safeguarding education remains a shared responsibility.
