Rivers crisis: PDP Governors reveal their intervention

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, led a group of PDP governors to meet with Wike in Abuja on Wednesday. During the meeting, Governor Mohammed emphasised that the parties involved in the dispute are loyal members of the party. He also pointed out that Wike is not only a member of the forum but is also well-acquainted with most, if not all, of the PDP governors.

Governor Mohammed stated, “Wike is a member of our party, a friendly and dedicated individual who currently serves the nation as the Minister of the FCT. Thanks to the maturity and leadership of the minister and the intervention of the president, this crisis will be resolved amicably. We are well aware of Wike’s character, his contributions to politics and national development, his relationships, and his achievements in politics. Therefore, it is not surprising that this matter is coming to a resolution. We would have intervened in this matter due to our personal and interpersonal connections with him in the FCT.”

He further expressed their satisfaction with the resolution being reached through the Governors’ Forum, highlighting the significance of Rivers as an economic hub and their appreciation for the President’s leadership.

During the reception of the delegation in his office, the FCT Minister alluded to the origins of the crisis and emphasised his determination not to allow anyone to dismantle his political structure.

Wike remarked, “I want to express my gratitude to my colleagues and friends for this wonderful visit, aimed at appreciating the President for appointing me to this position. I will continue to work for the president to achieve his renewed hope agenda. I want to make it clear that I am not here for any political party; I am here to serve the interests of Nigeria and promote national unity. I remain a member of the PDP, and I have never hidden my allegiance.”

Wike addressed the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, asserting his resilience against intimidation and his commitment to following constitutional procedures. He also dismissed rumours of financial misconduct and reaffirmed his dedication to preserving the political structure in Rivers State.

He further stated, “I have heard about various allegations and demands, but these are baseless. I am not a political ingrate. However, I will not allow anyone to tamper with the political structure in Rivers State. I have heard comments about not supporting certain presidential candidates, but I remain unfazed. The President is our leader, and his guidance will be followed. No amount of propaganda can undermine my resolve. My conscience is clear, and I will not tolerate baseless attacks on social media.”
