Austin Tam-George believes Governor Sim Fubara's administration offers Rivers State a way out from Nyesom Wike's grip. The former state Information Commissioner made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television's Prime Time programme.
Tam-George argued that while godfathers exist in many states, Rivers has something worse. He said Wike took self-promotion to unprecedented levels during his time as governor.
"We have a godfather who has taken prebendal politics to a completely new stratosphere," Tam-George noted. According to him, the former governor pushed personal aggrandizement so far that citizens had no choice but to reject it.
Those supporting Fubara's government do so as their escape route, he explained. They want to move past what he called "prebendal, self-aggrandizing politics" that Wike represents.
Tam-George cited a specific example from Wike's eight-year tenure. Not a single civil servant received promotion during that entire period, he claimed.
He commended Fubara for taking a different path. According to him, the current governor showed wisdom by focusing on serving the people's actual needs.
