Retirees appeal to Katsina governor for entitlements

By Aminu Daura

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Katsina State branch, has urged Gov. Umar Dikko-Radda to pay the gratuities of pensioners already screened by government from 2019 to date.

The Chairman of the union, Alhaji Surajo Abdu, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Katsina.

He also appealed to the governor to conclude the screening of all pensioners yet to be captured, in order to pay them their entitlements.

Surajo called on the government to continue from where the former administration stopped on the payment of pensions to retirees.

He further advised the new administration to review the pension paid to retirees in line with the law that required such review every five years.

“May Almighty Allah continue to guide and protect the new administration in discharging its duties,” he prayed.

The chairman recalled that the former administration of Gov. Aminu Masari had made tremendous efforts in settling the monthly entitlements of pensioners, including gratuities.

“We commend former governor Masari for the compassion shown to the affairs of the state pensioners,” Surajo added.
