Reps cancel budgetary provision for Presidential Yatch

The presidential yacht’s budgetary allocation was removed by the House of Representatives on Thursday. The committee in charge of appropriations transferred the funds to student loans, doubling the amount from 5.5 billion to 10 billion. The chairman of the committee, Abubakar Bichi Abubakar, said this was done to address the low funding for students.

The committee also raised the budget for the ministry of defence from 476 billion to 546 billion in view of the security challenges in the country.

Bichi further revealed that the minimum wage for workers was approved and sent to the executive for implementation. He assured that the House would monitor the budget execution closely.

The sum of 100 billion was maintained for FCT as requested by the minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The House passed the total budget of 2.177 trillion.
