Former Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has spoken out about the wave of mass defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State following his departure from the party.
In an interview on AriseTV, Ihedioha revealed that the exodus is a vote of confidence in his leadership and a response to his desire to lead a change and rebuild Imo.
Ihedioha, who resigned from the PDP on April 23, 2024, cited the party's inability to offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its failure to enact internal reforms as the reasons for his departure.
He emphasized that the PDP had lost its bearing and was no longer perceived as a party that could form government at the national or state levels.
The former governor expressed concern over the PDP's reluctance to address its internal issues, stating that the party had become disconnected from its founding principles.
He noted that his large support base in Imo State and across Nigeria felt that the PDP had lost its way and there was a need for change.
Following Ihedioha's resignation, a significant number of PDP members also left the party.
This included a former governor, deputy governors, former ministers, members of the House of Reps, senatorial candidates.
