Reno Omokri To Peter Obi: Don’t Burn Nigeria Over Election Loss

Former presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, has called on Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, not to “burn down the country” due to his loss in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election.

Omokri expressed his belief that the implementation of the Uwais report on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is necessary, which would strip the president of the power to appoint the chairman and commissioners, and instead place the responsibility with a non-partisan and objective body.

In addition to electoral reform, Omokri advocated for a more rigorous “Buy Nigerian” campaign, urging the government to promote made in Nigeria products.

He suggested that if there is a Nigerian alternative to a foreign good, people should opt for the locally produced product.

The conversation around the topic of Nigerian-made goods arose when Peter Obi criticized the country for accepting food donations from Ukraine, a nation currently facing conflict with Russia.

Obi referred to the food aid as a “national disgrace.”

In response, Omokri pointed out that Egypt has received food aid from Ukraine long before Nigeria did, emphasizing the importance of understanding the context of Ukraine and its role as a major wheat producer.

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, the call for electoral reform and the promotion of locally-made products has garnered significant attention.

In the meantime, the public awaits further developments in the aftermath of the 2023 presidential election.
